Quebec-based pigment and admixture producer Interstar Corp. and interior concrete specialist Fu-Tung Cheng are teaming to expand the Cheng Concrete Countertop line of packaged products for sale through an online store and U.S. building supply retailers. "We'll introduce an entire range of products for professionals and do-it-yourselfers (DIYs) to address the increasing demand for concrete countertops," says Cheng. "Concrete allows for highly sculptural designs, something not really possible with two-dimensional materials like granite or stone. But there's a shortage of craftsmen able to design and build them. We hope to address this with our training programs and full line of specialty products."

Product offerings have been dramatically improved under the Interstar-manufactured line, he adds, to include Pro-Formula Mix, Slurry, Sealer, Wax, and Polish items. A longtime concrete practitioner, Cheng has stepped into the industry spotlight in the past three years by conducting countertop design and fabrication workshops in his Berkeley studio; staging award presentations at World of Concrete; and, publishing the tony Concrete Countertops: Design, Forms, and Finishes for the New Kitchen and Bath guide.
