Product Information

Description
Astrum evaporation retarder is a water-based, VOC compliant spray-on liquid designed to be used on concrete flatwork. When sprayed over fresh concrete, it forms a thin, continuous film which prevents rapid moisture loss from the concrete surface. It is easy to use, requiring only the addition of water before spray application. This product is especially effective when concrete operations must be performed in direct sunlight, windy conditions, high temperatures, or low relative humidity.

Primary Application
  • Decorative concrete application
  • Floors
  • Plain concrete toppings
  • Precast
  • Color Hardener
  • Stamping
  • Concrete pavement
  • Slabs
  • Walks

Benefits
  • NO VOC (No Volatile Organic Compound)
  • Water-based for compatibility with fresh concrete
  • Holds in surface moisture on concrete floors and slabs
  • Helps prevent plastic shrinkage
  • Easy and economical to use
  • Helps eliminate crusting caused by loss of surface moisture
  • Excellent for both interior and exterior applications
  • Will not affect adhesion of curing compounds or other floor treatments
  • Enhances the finishing characteristics of concrete flatwork

Technical Data
Packaging: Astrum is available in a 1 quart bottle and a 1 gallon bottle.

Storage: Store in a dry area between 50 o F and 90 o F (10 o C and 30 o C). Protect from freezing and from high temperatures.

Properties:
  • Density (g/ml) 0.98
  • Appearance Yellow liquid
  • Odor Soapy

Usage
Directions: Supplied as a concentrate, Astrum must be diluted before use. Immediately after bull floating operation, spray Astrum onto the surface. Use a hand pump sprayer capable of spraying in a fine mist - DO NOT puddle. In extremely dry conditions, additional applications may be required.

Dilution: Dilute one (1) part Astrum concentrate for nine (9) parts of water (ratio 1 to 9).

Application: ASTRUM may be used on fresh concrete as well as between each color hardener application. When used with the stamped concrete process, wait until surface water has evaporated and use a recognized stamping method.

Cleaning: Clean spray equipment with soap and water.

Coverage: Astrum is concentrated. When mixed and diluted with the proper amount of water, one gallon will cover 2,000 to 4,000 square feet.

Limitation: DO NOT use as a curing compound. The concrete still must be cured after using this product. Astrum Evaporation Retarder CANNOT be used on exposed aggregate concrete. Material spilled on hardened concrete must be cleaned up immediately.

Note: Plastic shrinkage cracking is a strong possibility when the rate of evaporation exceeds 0.2 lb/ft²/hr. Evaporation is a function of relative humidity, concrete temperature, air temperature and wind velocity.
